Basic question about Windows. Need help with setup, features, or troubleshooting?
It's a good question. Taking Windows 7 from someone and installing it on your PC might work, but it could affect performance or compatibility. Upgrading to Windows 10 directly is usually better for stability and features. Once you have Windows 10, sharing it with others is possible if they have the same version. Just make sure both systems are updated regularly.
If they possess an additional Windows 7 installation and aren’t currently paying for the license, you can definitely use it and apply the free upgrade. There’s no performance impact by doing this. However, you shouldn’t simply acquire their copy without permission. It’s only a free upgrade available on a per-license basis.
Make sure you have the ability to turn it back on again. The license could be restricted to a single motherboard only.
