I'm working on setting up my sister's new PC and aiming to stay within a tight budget. I have three CPU choices: 1700x for $134, 3300x for $127, and 3600 for $175. It seems the newer models offer better performance, but they cost more. Any suggestions?

If you're not counting the 3600, it should work well with the stock cooler. If you still have some left to spend, you might even be able to get the 3600x for an additional 25 to 50 dollars or more.

To keep costs low, opt for the 1700x model which offers solid IPC and plenty of cores and threads. It lacks the top IMC but isn’t a major issue for casual use. The 3300x provides comparable IPC with a much better IMC, though you likely won’t push it to its limits. Let me know which components you intend to upgrade and an overall budget so I can suggest options that fit your needs and available alternatives.

Lightroom and Photoshop perform better with faster processors, so a Ryzen 3000 would likely outperform an older 1700X in terms of speed.

Yea but the cheaper offering for the 1700x does make it compelling and honestly the 3300x is not that whole lot faster and the 1700x has the 4 extra multi threaded cores

Budget sits near $600. It pairs with an RX 580 8GB and a B450 motherboard.

It's either the 1700x or the 3300x, as they're similar in size. The 3300x runs faster with a better IMC, while the 1700x offers more multi-threaded performance. Choose based on your needs.
