oh i saw the review, that's one awesome 6900 xt. it's being sold for about $1,300 CAD right now. i think, and i hope, i'll be fine with the whine. i have 4 intake fans and 4 exhaust fans, plus cpu fans in the case, the noise from the fans should be able to cover the whine. or i could just cap the frame rate or something. i don't really mind the fps. honestly, i can't see the difference between 60fps and 100+ . i don't even see any big difference between dlss and ray tracing with nvidia. but anyways, that's one awesome graphics card, probably the best in all aib's. well, except the water-cooling ones, but powercolor 6900 is awesome.
Which 30 series card is this? If it's from EVGA, you might need to set up Precision X1 to enable vBIOS updates and also refresh the motherboard BIOS. Based on a July 2021 motherboard BIOS version, it seems the card could be in a broken configuration or outdated setting.
I’ll admit, the whine is quite bothersome. I can still pick it up clearly even with all five fans running at full speed. It might be manageable, but proceed with caution. Still, opt for the Red Devil Ultimate or another XTXH variant. AMD seems to have split the 6900XT into two models—one with the XTX core and another with the XTXH core. The XTXH cards generally perform better, they’re categorized more favorably, and they lack restrictions (while XTX cards are capped at 3000MHz cores). If you manage to get a solid card, you can push the slider on water cooling and stick to 2150MHz RAM for maximum results. The Red Devil Ultimate and ASRock OC Formula are the ones I’m familiar with regarding XTXH cores; double-check with TechPowerUp. Also, turn off power limits if you want top performance—don’t just set the limit to 115%; instead, adjust the soft power table settings. This tweak is straightforward and safe, giving you an extra 10% boost without risking damage (just a DDU reset if needed). If you tweak the frequency, you might end up with a card that outperforms most 3090 models at room temperature.
I got the ASUS file, and it confirms your graphics card isn't needing an update. Probably not a big issue—resizable should offer minimal improvement. Still, I'm just curious. Thanks. I've been searching for the XTXH 6900 and am really interested in the MSI Gaming Trio. It's a bit thinner than the Red Devil, though not much thinner. But MSI tends to be pricier right now... a tough decision.
The Gaming Z is a decent 6900 XT, but I wouldn't go beyond a Red Devil Ultimate or OC Formula for it. It's rumored to have less coil whine than other 6900 XTs, though this varies by model. Where are you looking for one? I might be able to assist if you need help finding a good option. Check the used market as well—I found mine on FB Marketplace for around $700 US about two months ago. If you can skip spending $1500 on a card, that would be ideal. On Nvidia it doesn't really matter much, but on AMD it makes a big difference. In CS:GO it boosted my frame rate by about 25% at 4K, which seems to be the most noticeable improvement I've seen.
The Nvidia panel indicates resizing isn't activated, while gpuZ confirms it is enabled.
It's odd. The actual performance gap isn't significant enough to matter.
