Guys, stay calm. No need to create any issues.
Nnokalad is right when he mentions that OCing is both an experience and a practical step. It adds value to the process of assembling your own PC and keeps you engaged longer. I’ve put more than ten hours on my GPU (GTX 950) and really enjoyed the experience.
The person asking has likely had hardware built specifically for OC, so they’re free to try it out.
I’d like to remind the OP that as long as voltage settings stay correct, you won’t risk damaging anything. Just follow the instructions at the start of this part, and you’ll be safe. There are also precautions in place—like MSI afterburner which restricts voltage control unless you acknowledge the risks. Just be careful and it should work fine.
If SkyNetRising thinks OC is too risky, we just have different views, but he’s someone who prefers caution, which I respect. It’s also true that for regular gaming (1080p), the OP won’t notice much improvement, but if they also run demanding tasks like video editing, streaming, or 1440p games, OC can really boost performance.
I hope this clears things up for anyone reading this thread, and I wish the OP success.

You haven't ever OC'ed before, so keep talking.
What makes you so confident about this? I've done my part with PC hardware too.
That small FPS boost of 5-10% isn't really worth it. You'll reach that point when your GPUs stop working.
You might feel lucky if you haven't had to deal with that yet.
😉
N.B And please don't tell anyone what to do. You're not in charge of me, and likely not anyone else.

I might end this here.
Picture providing a reply just to spark debates about differing views.

I get it overclocking a basic Pentium G3258. But i7-6700K and GTX970? Just for the sake of it without any clear purpose? That seems reckless and not very thoughtful.
But hey! Everyone should learn from their own errors, shouldn't they?

Hey, that's pretty tough, isn't it? I was just trying to figure out how it all functioned. I enjoy getting the best out of things. I wasn't planning to cause any damage, just wanted to understand it better. I put a lot of effort into saving up for this PC, and I didn't have any intention of hurting it. Just curious about the process.

Hey, I didn't mean to kick things off in a big way. It seemed like a good idea to explore OCing. I put in a lot of effort on my machine and I'm satisfied with the results. I just love getting into projects (cars or whatever). What was also said is that I was mainly curious about what benefits it would bring and how it functions, not to bother anyone personally.

That's exactly how I interpret it too. Enjoy yourself, keep learning, and experiment. As long as you understand what you're doing, you won't cause any harm.
