You're looking for key features to guide your board recommendation. Also, let me know what additional components you plan to integrate with it.

I keep the mainboard for several years and aim for the most advanced capabilities possible, without needing extra features. I prefer staying within the price range of what’s available, but I’m open to a more affordable option if it proves beneficial.

But why not? It won’t really change how you perform, and aside from Wi-Fi and maybe Bluetooth, you’ll probably never notice that big difference a B650 without the newest features could offer. You can use it for its entire AM5 socket life, just like people stick with the B450 all the way through the AM4 lifespan.

For a new build tomorrow, consider a reliable motherboard like the B550 or B660 series from ASUS or MSI—both offer strong performance and good value.

B650 eagle ax offers great value and consistent performance, even when pushed to 9800x3ds. For WiFi needs, consider MSI B650 gaming plus WiFi. Most brands work well, though I’m hoping the hardware packaging will include a good selection.

I’m aiming for a B850 platform featuring USB4, 5Gbps LAN, Wi-Fi 7, and Realtek ALC4080/4082. If 2.5Gbps LAN works without Wi-Fi and offers superior audio over the ALC897, that’s fine. However, if such a board exists, it should cost less than the X870 otherwise it doesn’t make sense to purchase.

USB 4 isn't essential unless you're dealing with extremely large files where the 20Gb/s speeds aren't necessary. There are numerous boards offering 2.5 to 5 Gbps LAN connections, even with Wi-Fi capabilities—Wi-Fi 7 is becoming a practical requirement. For audio, you can use a dedicated card and it often works fine; in many cases, pairing a good board with an audio card saves money compared to buying a premium system. The MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI seems to meet your needs aside from the rear USB 4 support. You'll likely need a case that can handle it.

I favor a slight premium for USB4, are there other options you'd like to consider?
