I already own an asrock b560 pro rs board, but I noticed it isn’t the top choice for the 7800x3d.

It likely doesn't suit a 7800X3D because its specifications don't match the requirements of that particular model.

It lacks sufficient power output to meet high-demand applications.

8+4 pin provides ample power for that CPU. Of course, doubling the board for cost benefits comes with advantages, though only truly worthwhile for serious overclockers such as Buildzoid.

Just seen reviews on the board on says it fine but the board might get a bit warm. So I have a 7700 with a stock so if I upgrade to a 7800x3d with decent air cooler i should be good and also going to be swapping from 4070 to 7900 xt

It might not be the top choice, but it works fine for a 7800x3D that doesn’t require much power. Unless your setup has limited connectivity options, not enough M2 or PCIe ports, etc., it’s a solid board.

The 7800X3D uses around 50W normally and rises to about 80W during intense gaming, which suggests the VRM should handle it without overheating. Also, the Hardware Unboxed video you checked shows a budget B650 motherboard that seems more than sufficient for this model.

The Asrock B650 Pro RS comfortably supports the 7800X3D. This board was unboxed and stress-tested with a 7950X for an hour; it performed well in terms of VRM cooling and other metrics. Since it handled the 7950X adequately, it should easily manage the 7800X3D as well.

You have 7700, upgrading the GPU is the best option.
