B550 Tomahawk paired with 3080 MSI TRIO featuring VGA debug illumination
Hey there, I've been using this setup for about four years now. Suddenly my PC won't boot. The CPU debug light flashes briefly then turns off, while the VGA light stays lit and the GPU RGB stays on along with the fans. My specs are a B550 Tomahawk 5900X MSI 3080 TRIO with 4x8GB RAM and Patriot Viper RAM. I've replaced the GPU, reconnected all cables, tested the bottom Mobo slot, and confirmed the display cables are secure. Any advice or should the GPU be dead? I've never had problems before. Thanks.
Consider purchasing an affordable GPU like the GT 730 to test things out. If that doesn’t work, simplify your setup by disconnecting non-essential components—such as storage drives and most RAM—leaving only one stick active. This approach can help isolate the faulty part. By the way, I’ve faced a comparable problem with my B450 Tomahawk where a failed SATA hard drive stopped booting, and the motherboard displayed a VGA light after removing everything.
That sounds useful. I'll experiment with other setups once the current one fails. I can check my GPU at a friend's place later if needed. Thanks!
I’ve got the same problem with my 7870. It seems the GPU might be the culprit—though I’m not sure if it’s still functional after seven years. I’ve tested with a single RAM stick and removed all SSDs, but nothing helped. Maybe older GPUs have quirks? I’m planning to test it on someone else’s machine next.
Checked the GPU on two additional PCs, same problem. It seems the GPU has failed and the warranty expired ten months ago.
