I also need to mention I don’t like the thought of updating BIOS for a CPU that won’t be supported anymore—I worry something could fail! Even worse, with ASRock or MSI boards where the original manufacturers aren’t officially backing them, the chances of problems increase significantly...
You're considering upgrading your setup with the ROG Strix B550-F board. It makes sense to test the new components thoroughly before the next Ryzen release. Using the older R5 1600X and lower-frequency RAM temporarily can help you verify compatibility without waiting until mid-October. Everyone has different reasons for these choices, and not understanding them doesn't reflect poorly on you.
I was asking the same question... in the end decided to try myself and it works! (kinda) While I'm waiting for my 5600x arrive, I decided to try if my old 1600 could boot on my Strix B550-E (0608), but, the only think that isn't working is Performance Boost. on my old x370 board, it was boosting to 3700mhz, but got stuck on 3200 on the B550 one, nothing that an OC to 3.6 didn't solved.
I'm facing the same issue with a 2700 (non-X) and PBO isn't compatible with the B550, so I've done a full core overhaul to 4.1.
