After reviewing the content, I still find it hard to grasp how the B550 chipset's PCI-E lanes work. I’m planning to assemble a new PC in 2021 with a 5000-core Ryzen CPU, a Gen 4 NVME SSD, and plan to upgrade to a Gen 3 SSD later. I’ve heard that once you connect more than two PCI-E devices, the bandwidth between them gets shared, which might affect performance. My main concern is how this impacts my Gen 4 system’s NVME SSD speed and graphics card performance—will there be noticeable slowdowns in reading/writing, rendering, or everyday tasks? Also, will my GPU start dropping frames?

The choice of board affects how the CPUs and GPUs operate. For these applications, b550 performs well. The specific M.2 slots have different performance levels: one runs at Gen 4 speeds via the GPU, another at Gen 4 X16 from the CPU, and a third at Gen 3 X4 from the chipset.

Ryzen CPUs provide 20 lanes, and the motherboard adds extra connections, which connect via a 3.0 x4 interface to the CPU: this is how a standard B550 board configuration typically appears: CPU (20+4) → 4.0 x16 graphics card → 4.0 x4 SSD → 3.0 x4 chipset → 3.0 x4 SSD → 3.0 x1 Wi-Fi → SATA ports, etc.

I think the Gigabyte B550 Aourus Pro works well. Adding a Gen 3 NVMe SSD in another PCI-E slot shouldn’t harm your Gen 4 SSD or GPU.
