Hey, I've been facing some tricky problems lately and it's hard to pinpoint if the issue comes from the CPU or the motherboard. I've noticed two strange events. First, Windows would suddenly crash and then fail to recognize my OS drive. Second, while playing Metro Exodus, my CPU temperature spiked to 98°C within five minutes. I'm unsure if this is due to the chipset controller, a faulty CPU signal, or both. I'm using the standard cooler and hadn't had any overheating problems before. I've already tried several fixes: updated UEFI, updated chipset drivers, disabled Asus's auto-boost in UEFI, refreshed thermal paste, cleaned the heatsink, turned on manual heat cap, and reinstalled Windows 11 Pro. My specs include an Asus ROG Strix B550-F Gaming with stock power delivery connectors, a Ryzen 5 5600X, G.Skill 16GB DDR4-3600, ASUS TUF RTX 3080 LHR, and a 1TB NVMe Samsung drive. The PSU is a Corsair 1000W Gold from a previous build, around three years old.
your cpu cooler isn't secured correctly or it's simply inadequate. The issue could be with the case fan or SSD connections—try reattaching the cables, then consider replacing the RAM or SSD if the problem persists. If that fails, you might want to return the SSD.
The cooler is functioning perfectly, and I confirmed it when reinstalling. It hasn’t caused any problems for more than a year, and temperatures have always been normal. Since the SSD is an M.2 drive, it’s unlikely the issue lies with the cable. What could explain why you suspect the SSD?
I will check the SSD when I am back home. Yes, it was a plastic cover, the heat of my cpu wasn't an issue until yesterday for the first year and 10 months worked fine. I renewed it with Bequiet DC1 paste. Bequiet 802 but the front dampening removed so clear airflow, dust filter still in though, also 30-40 cm clear on the backside for exhaust. Airflow hasn't been a problem before. The 3 silent wing fans from the case itself, they are 140s.
I just verified the SSD and HD Sentinel (trial); it reports everything is functioning perfectly.
