Hi everyone, I’m planning to upgrade my PC with an MSI B550 Wi-Fi for audio and video editing. I’ll need a 32GB DDR4 kit, but I’m leaning toward the G.Skill TridentZ 3200 CL16 (F4-3200C16D-32GTZKW) at 145€ or the Crucial Ballistix 3600 CL16 (BL2K16G36C16U4B) for 156€. What do you think?

Pay the additional 10 euros to receive the 3600 MHz RAM. High-frequency RAM is ideal for Ryzen processors.

For those not needing 64GB soon, a 4x8GB setup works well. The 3600MHz model costs a bit more but offers better performance. Currently, buying four sticks gives you 32GB, which is useful for having multiple memory ranks per channel.

Allocate the remaining budget to boost RAM capacity. Higher clock speeds and reduced latency are key for Ryzen performance. The 3600 CL16 offers both increased frequency and a lower 8.8888ns latency compared to the 3200 CL16, making it a more efficient choice.

Currently, I’m limited to these options only. Everyone around Christmas feels like the locusts from the Egyptian plague, and there aren’t any more rams available in stores!

Consider using 2 kits of 8GB instead of 16GB if costs match. The G.Skill TridentZ 3200 CL16 supports overclocking up to 3600.

Ballistix Crucial is generally a superior option for OC. The 3000MHz CL15 would likely perform even better than the G.Skill setup.

I also discovered the - Team Group T-FORCE DARK Zα 32GB Kit DDR4-3600 CL18 (TDZAD432G3600HC18JDC01) - Mushkin Redline memory 32 GB 2 x 16 GB DDR4 3600 MHz (MRA4U360JNNM16GX2) at a reasonable cost.

Two pairs of 2x8GB units don't match a single 4x8GB package. XMP doesn't ensure compatibility with the former. Avoid pushing anything over 3200MHz unless it's Crucial 3600 or higher; they're built for lower speeds. These components use chips that aren't approved for 3600MHz.
