Hello, I own a server equipped with a B550 Aorus Elite AX V2 and a Ryzen processor without an integrated graphics card. The mainboard features four PCIe slots: two x16 slots, one x16 slot with PCIe x1, another x1 slot with PCIe x1, and a single x16 slot. It currently hosts two GPUs—a 3060 Ti for Jellyfin transcoding and Machine Learning—and a Quadro P600 for the default host display output. Presently, I use an HBA in slot 4, but after upgrading to six Enterprise HDDs (each offering up to 300 MB/s), my 1 GBit/s connection may become a bottleneck for ZFS operations. I’m considering purchasing a GT 710 with a PCIe x1 connector for host display output and connecting it to slot 4, allowing me to utilize slot 2, which provides 2 GBit/s. Alternatively, I might connect the 3060 Ti in slot 2 with slot 1, depending on the required speeds for transcoding or ML tasks. The issue is that the BIOS only displays slots 1 and 2 for default display output; slot 4 isn’t visible (perhaps because GPUs aren’t installed yet). I need to set the default display output since remote management via PiKVM requires it, but changing the device via GRUB won’t help. Anyone know if it’s possible to make slot 4 the default here? You need two additional M.2 slots featuring PCIe connections, along with unbuffered ECC support. The overall configuration should include three slots in total. When purchasing a replacement, ensure you understand how to configure the initial display output settings.

I've turned off the GPU in an x1 slot and there were no problems. It seems you might just want to keep it in Auto mode so it handles things automatically.

No native x1 slots or a riser connecting x1 to x16 were used.

Support for native x1 slot means it should work similarly regardless of the configuration. Any x16 version would also function at x1. This setup was tested on an X99 Intel system, though results with AMD remain uncertain.
