Hi everyone, I set up my office under the stairs and it becomes extremely hot during gaming sessions, often reaching around 37°C or higher on cooler days. To fix this, I’m moving my computer to a cupboard with better ventilation. Everything is working fine so far, but during a test fit I accidentally damaged my Wi-Fi antenna from the connectors. It’s frustrating, but I knew the cable was too short anyway, so I needed a fix. I’d like to replace the antenna or modify it by adding more wires if possible. I only need it for Bluetooth connections with headphones and controllers—not for Wi-Fi. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you can't locate a suitable replacement antenna, consider using a PCIe card. These typically cost about $30 on Amazon.

It seems any SMA antenna should work. For identical results, consider the link provided. If you need a longer cable, purchase an SMA extension cable.

If an SMA antenna functions then it could be intriguing, indicating it might be possible to extend the cable length and connect it more easily.

The connector type is SMA, which is common in radio equipment. It seems there isn’t any unique chip inside the original unit to establish a handshake with the motherboard for part serial verification. Probably not possible through an SMA connection... I haven’t tested it myself, but I’ve heard some users connect extension cables to motherboards or Wi-Fi routers.

I haven’t tested it myself, but I’ve heard some users connect extension cables to motherboards or Wi-Fi routers.

The concern centered on how much the variation in resistance would affect performance versus using a chip or custom techniques. I discovered a short extension cable that’s 1 meter long, which I could quickly solder and then have it shrink to fit.

Any antenna with SMA connector will work, but you need to play attention to the description, as some antennas are "optimized" for 2.4 Ghz and won't work well with 5 and 6 Ghz. Amazon has a lot of them, if you don't want to wait after eBay sellers to send you one from China. The wire going to the connectors on the wireless card are coaxial (a thin wire insulated then all around is a mesh of copper/alluminum/steel whatever wire that's soldered to the exterior of the sma connector. So it would be a bit hard to solder wires. Better to get a ready made antenna with longer wires.
