I'm new to this AM4 board and really wondered why you thought it was bad. It looks fine for a hexa-core setup.
You bought it for around... 3600? 5600x? Similar to those chips, a $150 motherboard (b550-a-pro) would likely work just fine. For the cost, I’d opt for a b550 aorus master. It supports TDA 21472 in a true 12+2 setup, offers better IO, includes debug and post codes, plus dual BIOS support. ASUS provides debug features, while others don’t.
I understand that Asus has always been reliable for me. Gigabyte is decent, but I haven’t owned an MSI before. I’d likely invest in a Giga before getting into MSI. Plus, I’m confident I can upgrade my 5600X or 3600XT easily and replace it with a 5800 model right now given today’s prices.
I'm using an Asus B550 for gaming, currently running a Ryzen 5 3600. I plan to upgrade to the 5000 series soon.
Oh no, why did you buy that board for such a low price? It’s not worth it at all—just a premium build and appearance. For $250 it’s a poor choice. What CPU is it? 5800x or 5900x? And what’s the B550 AORUS Master cost? I’d recommend it. The B550-F isn’t great either. If you missed what I said earlier, the VRMs are 4x3+2 SiC639s (tripled VRMs... who cares?) for $250. Lol. Those VRMs by themselves aren’t bad, but ASUS adds four of them just for looks. You’re paying a lot for the design, and the performance isn’t impressive at this price. The heatsinks are fine, but overall it’s not worth it.
b550-f offers solid power supplies with comparable efficiency to the x570-f, similar to the x57+ Aorus Pro or MSI B550-A Pro.
I plan to upgrade my motherboard right now, it's still working well at 3600 MHz. For the 5K series, I intend to switch my GPU motherboard to achieve a 4K display.
