The situation is already set. I'm assembling the PC for a cousin, and he's really focused on that particular case, so it has to be the Micro-ATX form factor. Yes, I'm also evaluating those options. I need to ensure the board is durable and functions smoothly without problems. Is the Gigabyte B450M DS3H Micro ATX a reliable option? It looks like it's more affordable, but I don't want to invest heavily, yet still want a quality component.

The DS3H, also called the "Ultra Durable" line, emphasizes reliability. My experience with Gigabyte boards has been positive, along with many others I've heard about. I've encountered more problems with Asus boards overall. Asus does produce excellent motherboards, actually being the choice for my setup. But if you prioritize dependability and ease of use, Gigabyte is the better pick. My IT contact confirmed that Gigabyte boasts the lowest failure rate and top-notch customer support among manufacturers he's worked with. That aligns with my observations. The main issue is limited internal and external connectivity options. As long as your setup fits what you plan to connect, it should perform well. If you require higher bandwidth (especially with extra space in the case), consider adding an expansion card.

It's a solid board offering good performance, particularly when you already own it. It comes at a higher cost if purchased new. Consider Gygabyte's recommendation if applicable. Keep in mind you may not be able to fit the R9 core due to power limitations.

They use terms like "Ultra Durable" and model names such as DS3H to label their most basic products. These labels don’t really indicate any special features beyond being low-end. They’re just another way to describe the cheapest options available.

I understand the constraints of VRM on these mid-range motherboards. I won’t attempt to run a 12/16 core CPU there. My current 2700 should suffice for stock performance, and it might handle a 5700X in the future if my cousin decides to upgrade.

I thought that's just promotional fluff. I'm not demanding much, as long as it performs adequately, doesn't require industrial-level reliability, and lasts several years. However, if there are generally positive results with minimal failure rates, they seem suitable for my needs.
