hello everyone, i'm still deciding between amd and intel for my itx build. right now, the b450 itx motherboards are really confusing me. can i update the bios without getting an amd cpu? and why do i keep seeing that bios flashback feature mentioned everywhere? i don't have a manual that says otherwise. i'm wondering what happens if i install the 3rd gen cpu? is it possible to access the bios without a cpu installed? i'm reaching out because you can flash a newer bios version directly from the bios itself. thanks in advance.

Yes, you can refresh the BIOS if the motherboard allows BIOS flashback, which is common in most ITX boards. You don’t need a CPU for this process. For instance, with an Asus board: https://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1038568/

You're welcome on the response, but it doesn't assist you. Motherboards without BIOS flashback are rare unless the manual confirms otherwise. If you need help with this, let me know and I'll guide you through it. Without a CPU, your AMD build might be a good option to consider. Thanks in advance for your patience!

Sure, I can help with that. You might be able to run the BIOS on a system without a CPU, but it depends on the specific setup and firmware. Let me know if you need more details! #amd

Entering BIOS requires a CPU, but it won’t work if the CPU isn’t compatible. Most B450 boards come with Ryzen 3-ready BIOS already. If you’re lucky and have newer hardware, that’s usually fine.

Thanks for confirming, that should resolve the issue. I've been worried since the Amazon listings don't show the "AMD Ryzen 3000 desktop ready" label.
