Hey there, so I'm using a Patriot Viper 16GB (2x8) 3200MHZ CL16 - PV416G320C6K kit right now. It comes with an MSI Tomahawk B450 and a Ryzen 5 5600. My friend had two of these kits: a Kingston HyperX Predator 16GB (2x8GB DDR4 3200MHz) and another similar model. He noticed some BSODs started appearing, so he ran a memory test and found the issue was with the RAM. He didn’t dig deeper, just asked me to get a new one, and gave me his four modules to try. I plan to run MemTest tomorrow on each to see which one is faulty. I’m hoping to find two working modules, since it’s unlikely more than two would fail at once. Would it be possible to combine these with my current 2x8 Patriot RAM? Both kits are running at the same 3200MHz CL16 speed, but the Kingston model has lower timings. My current Ryzen is a 5th generation, and I’m okay with mixing if it works. I know Intel used to be strict about RAM choices, but now it seems more flexible.

It should work without issues, I tested four sticks on a 5600. Still, it makes sense to give them a try.

Determine which item is faulty first. Also, inquire whether anyone uses mixed rams on the latest ryzens.

I use a combination of RAM on my laptop with a 3500G Zen+ CPU, and everything functions properly. This suggests it might be simpler to achieve compatibility with newer processors.

It's likely the same RAM module is present. Both Patriot and Kingston produce RAM products.

Sure, I understand. Kingston is known for using Hynix, and your Patriot RAMs also match that.

I often emphasize the standard PSA about RAM stability, but when you get it for free, why not experiment? Just ensure the BIOS is updated to the latest AGESA 1.2.0.A. This would be the last major AGESA release for AM4 and has reportedly enhanced RAM compatibility.

I'm using the most recent stable version with ComboAm4v2PI 1.2.0.7. The 1.2.0.A is just a beta build for my Tomahawk, but we'll find out. I could test the 4x8Gb Kingstons separately since they seem to be functioning well.

It's already available on B450-A Pro Max. Odd.
