B450 Steel Legend - XMP / Memory Boost Version
Howdy friends, I'm struggling to get XMP working on my system. The specs are: CPU : Ryzen 7 2700x Motherboard : Asrock B450 Steel Legend ( BIOS version 2.9 ) Memory : Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 3200MHZ (x2, 32GB total ) Exact models are CMK16GX4M2Z3200C16 GPU : RTX 2070 Super Yes, I'm aware I should've avoided Corsair memory. You live and you learn unfortunately. I'm sure as most of you guessed; my memory is defaulting to 2133Mhz. I've done everything I could think of in the bios regarding XMP, attempted to use Ryzen Master to OC instead of XMP, and reformatted windows. The only other solution that I've seen for this current set up; is that some people have updated their BIOS. I noticed quite a few of these solutions are over a year old, and as it stands, my CPU is not recommended for any further BIOS updated. Voltage and timings are set to the recommended - 1.35V, 16-18-18-18-36 TL;DR: Cannot get my memory clocked at 3200mhz, and am unsure as to what the next troubleshoot step would be. I've avoided BIOS updates as my CPU is not supported. Please share some wisdom with me. I've considered overclocking manually but as I would be new to the scenario; I figured it'd be best to see if anyone had a better recommendation; or if anyone was aware if updating my Bios would be an issue on Pinnacle Edit: I noticed that in CPU-Z my timings don't seem to match up with what is currently set. At the time of this post; my timings were 16-18-18-18-36. I found a post stating that Asrock had recommend using 18-20-20-20-42 instead. I changed my timings in BIOS; yet it does not reflect in CPU-Z or any other program Pic attached
I've configured it with the same CPU and issue, using 2933 as the maximum supported frequency for 2700x.
I recommend adjusting the setting to 2933 in the BIOS; this should resolve the issue. If that doesn't help, consider increasing the voltage. Calculators aren't needed for achieving these speeds anymore. These settings are outdated—just ensure you run Prime 95 to verify stability before diving back into your favorite games.
Configuring it to 2933 activates the XMP profiles in my BIOS. I've tested several times using different frequencies (2933mhz, 3000mhz, 3200mhz) and adjusting timings, but nothing shows up after booting. Changing the RAM speed in the BIOS doesn't make a difference either.
I investigated the specifications of each module and found two versions: one with *E* and another without. Their clock speeds varied. I removed the *E* variant and tried the *Z* version. I set the default frequency to 2667 MHz, but it still doesn’t exceed that limit. I’m uncertain whether the issue lies in the RAM, CPU, or motherboard.
