B450 PCIe 4 support adapter
B450 PCIe 4 support adapter
That's intriguing. What type of motherboard are you using? This is my first time seeing a B450 supporting PCIe 4.0. You mentioned PCIe can be upgraded, which means it's possible to use a PCIe 4.0 GPU on a PCIe 3.0 slot. Since no GPU currently reaches its full potential through its PCIe connection, the need for a PCIe 4.0 lane in new GPUs to achieve maximum performance seems unlikely.
I mentioned having an Aorus Elite. The PCI4 support on B450s used to be standard, but later it was said these boards wouldn’t handle it anymore, and it vanished with BIOS updates. I’ve just realized my machine still has it, which is why I brought this up.
Didn't notice the Aorus Elite section... sorry about that. However, checking the B450 Aorus Elite spec shows it only has PCIe 3.0 lanes. It seems they likely pushed PCIe 4.0 onto those 3.0 lanes via BIOS tweaks—probably a guess. This probably leads to issues on most boards, which explains why they’re planning to remove it in future updates. But if you're concerned about the GPU PCIe port, there’s nothing to worry about at all.
