Hello everyone. I’m trying to figure out if I should get a B450 or a B550. On one side, I heard the 3600 model doesn’t work with B450 boards, but another source said it does after a BIOS update. If a BIOS update is needed, do I require a different motherboard? I also learned that a new CPU might be necessary for the update, so would updating BIOS be possible without an extra processor? Would choosing the B550 simplify things compared to the B450? That’s a lot of questions with few answers. My current setup includes a Ryzen 5 3600, 3600 speed RAM (still unsure), and an RTX 3060.

You’d require a previous generation Ryzen to install the BIOS update, which you’re already aware of. No particular motherboard is necessary for this task. If the cost difference isn’t significant and the effort bothers you, I recommend choosing the B550, especially if you intend to upgrade your CPU later. The strong motherboard support from AMD across multiple generations makes it a solid option. You might also consider purchasing components from an offline store where they could assemble the system and update the BIOS for you—though I’m not certain about that without direct experience. You could inquire with your local retailer about this possibility.

Most B450 boards are already updated unless you obtain very old models.

You can check details before placing your order, but you’ll also need to rely on the platform’s feedback to see how it goes.

It isn't entirely accurate. My AORUS M comes with 3000 series CPUs by default. The F60e BIOS is compatible with 5000 series chips. Verify the seller's website to confirm they ship with BIOS that supports 3000 series. Check if the retailer or maker confirms pre-flashing of the BIOS for your board. Not every B450 model includes this feature, but more makers are releasing updated boards with improved BIOS support recently.

It's all fine, brother! I ordered my AORUS M from Amazon, and it took months for it to arrive in their warehouse. My BIOS was old, but since it came with the F51 version, I was good to go. I updated it to F60e now, and I can run a 5000 series CPU if I wanted to.
