B450 board doesn't work after installing Ryzen 5 2600X
I had my Ryzen 5 2600x ready to go but was let down when the motherboard wouldn’t power on. I removed the CPU and left the RAM and GPU in, and it started up fine with the CPU light turning red—no CPU installed. After trying a BIOS update, I confirmed it wasn’t my RAM or GPU, just the board needing power. I own the 2600x and a B450 Tomahawk (non-max). Could you assist? Also, if it’s my CPU, there might still be an exchange option.

I reviewed system performance metrics and used benchmarking tools to evaluate RAM and GPU functionality.
I shared my RAM and GPU with a trusted person who confirmed it worked. Even when I removed them and left the CPU with RAM (no power) or without RAM at all, the issue persisted. I also tried different RAM types without fixing the problem. I’m considering letting someone else use the CPU for testing but want to avoid damaging the pins.
If you think the CPU is faulty, and the board seems normal, send back the CPU.
That works fine for me. If you know a friend who’s willing to lend you something, you could take your CPU there and test it together. They can handle all their equipment (like removing any CPU they own) and you just install yours to confirm it fits properly without damaging the pins.
I'm not entirely confident it's the CPU since I purchased it recently at MicroCenter. It's possible to encounter a faulty CPU, so I'll attempt to reset the CMOS soon.
Check if diagnostics can be shared. Consider having the PC examined for you at a reduced price or even for free.
Yeah, I wasn't too worried about the pandemic at first. My situation has stayed relatively stable, and I was mostly studying online for my MS before and after. I agree with @ShrimpBrime—I'd definitely consider going back to Microcenter. They offer solid on-site diagnostics and should resolve issues quickly. I've also received DOA CPUs, which is pretty rare.
