In the past, older or frequently used mainboards often worked well with newer processors, even though some cutting-edge boards lacked required updates. Take Wolfdale and Carrizo as examples.

I think it should work with the Ryzen 4000. After Ryzen announced the launch, AMD mentioned AM4 would remain supported until 2020, which I used to think covered up to that year. Of course, there are other factors to consider, such as the A320 not being officially compatible with the Ryzen 3000 series yet, though many people still use it. Also, the B550 hasn't been released yet. If they planned to retire the B450, they should have a more mainstream chipset by now, I believe.

There isnt a reason why it wouldnt be. And they have said they will offer AM4 support out 2020. Tho those statemebts are pretty old by now.

You're planning a CPU upgrade in about 6-8 months and currently have an Intel R5 2600. Consider the Ryzen 5 3600 or the upcoming Ryzen 5 4600, focusing mainly on VRM compatibility rather than socket differences.

The 5th generation Ryzen should work well with the VRM configuration, no problems expected. There’s no specific reason I see for doubting support for the Ryzen 4000, though it might be the final model compatible with that chipset version.

I understand it's a B450, but the manufacturer isn't listed on the product page. You referred to Gigabyte before, so it might be that one. The image shows the ITX version of the board.

I didn’t grab the other option; I paid an additional $30 for the Asus model. On the updated Mobo ranking, its position dropped from Tier C to Tier D.

Based on what I observed with the Asus lineup, the Strix model should perform well without any concerns. The other options in the ITX range have less optimal VRM configurations, which might limit their ability to handle the chip effectively. While the power rating matches the higher-tier chips (105W), the additional cores and chiplets could cause a more significant increase in draw when overclocking. Running it at or near stock settings should keep everything stable.
