I am wondering if I should wait to get a mobo for my new 5600x board. I currently have a B450 with my 2700x, but once I do replace my current mobo, it would need to utilize my 2700x again. I know that people were saying the new BIOS was causing issues with older chips. What do you guys think? Should I go ahead and still get my new B550, or wait. Looking at GIGABYTE B550 AORUS PRO V2 or the MSI PRO B550-A PRO. Both do have support for 5000 series, and it looks like both may get the announced AGESA update next month.
I own a Gigabyte B550M Aorus Pro with 5600x and no USB issues. Most problems seemed linked to VR needing a powered hub. My Reverb G2 works fine via USB3 on the B550M. Perhaps it was just luck. You’re likely safe, though. The only risk is using a powered hub until AGESA 1.2.0.2 is released. Note that depending on the build date, you might need to flash the board before running the 5600x. You can use Q-Flash without a CPU installed.
It should work with Zen 2 processors. I think the 2700x is Zen+ so yeah, it won't be compatible, but I built mine with a Ryzen 3 3100 in September while waiting on the 5600x to come out. I used it with the 3100 for about a month and then when I got the 5600x, had to put it back in again to update the bios. I didn't know about Q-Flash working without even having a cpu installed, or it would have saved me some thermal paste cleaning time. Q-Flash seems easy enough to do. If not though, and you live close enough to one, Micro Center will update bios for you for like $30. I love MC, depending on whether or not you buy the board from them, you might get them to throw it in with the cost of the mobo.
It seems you're questioning your earlier assumption about the game. I wasn't sure if it was Zen 2 either. I'd really appreciate having a nearby Micro Center, since it would have made acquiring the 5600x way simpler. They're only available in-store alongside other items like video cards.
My Gaming Plus Max already has the update installed. Once my partner gets his new setup, it will be a significant upgrade for him. The main change will be getting a video card so he can use the 1660 model.
Really, wait until you own a graphics card before investing in anything else. You might lock up $150 worth of money on a motherboard for no reason. The rest of the parts are usually easy to get, though it’s hard to say if that will stay true. It feels like just one part is always hard to find at any moment. Was PSU’s situation when I began this project back in August/September?
I currently have a 1660 and it will stay with me until I upgrade my graphics card.
