Hi everyone,

Here’s my setup:
Hardware: Z370 Sli plus, i5 8600k @5.2GHz 1.335V AVX-2, GTX 1080 Armor OC @2GHz+, Corsair 2666 MHz RAM @3000Hz, Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 cooling, Be Quiet! Pure Power 600W PSU, Corsair 270R case, monitoring tools MSI Afterburner and HWMonitor.

I built this system in November 2017. All components were overclocked—CPU, RAM, and graphics card. Everything is stable. For the CPU, I achieved a 5.2GHz frequency at 1.335V under 75°C during Prime95 without AVX. I added an AVX offset of 2 to reach 5GHz during AVX tasks, which performed well on RealBench, Prime95, OCCT, and IBT for over four hours.

The main issue is that the AVX offset activates even when not using AVX workloads, such as during gaming (HOTS, BF1, Destiny 2, etc.). The CPU maintains 5.2GHz in idle but jumps to 5GHz with loads, showing micro-bumps at 5.2GHz. One exception was during OCCT Linpack without AVX, where it stayed at 5.2GHz with minor dips to 5GHz.

Anyone else encountered this problem?
Rodolphe.

I've seen the same issue on an ASUS mobo with a 7700k. I'm unsure why it's happening. It could be because games are using AVX instructions or the motherboard thinks they are. I haven't found a solution and don't use an AVX offset.

After thorough investigation, I discovered a bios problem. We can just wait and see. I also turned off the AVX offset to reach full 5.2GHz and increased the voltage to 1.36V, but the temperature is now between 80-85°C, which makes me uneasy. With those readings, I’ll replace it as soon as possible. Rodolphe.
