I noticed an unusual pattern in my timelines. The estimated drive time seemed off—about five hours for a job just half an hour away. I saw the system repeatedly returning me home every hour, which made sense because it was using the router at the job site. Since there was no internet there, I relied on my own old router to set up a network (DHCP, etc.). Changing the SSID didn’t help. I found some suggestions, but they all required an internet connection, which I don’t have at new locations. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Check for any additional devices connected to your Google account, such as a smartphone or tablet, that might be using GPS.

Certainly yes. I can replicate this using a plugin in this router at a different place. As soon as my phone detects it, I’m back home.

It seems they’re trying to identify the MAC address of the device and are unsure how to handle it. You’d need to locate a method to fully exclude that gadget from Google’s public Wi-Fi tracking, since it isn’t tied specifically to your account.

Update your precision to phone-only mode or define the initial location address.

Adjusted location settings to use GPS only and turned off Wi-Fi scanning. Ready to test, though I hope it works.

They've become quite knowledgeable when you set the "home" option and connect to the nearby Wi-Fi network, which then identifies itself as "home."
