Avoid receiving a 2.5 GBS delivery.
Avoid receiving a 2.5 GBS delivery.
First secure a NIC supporting 2.5Gbps, ensure compatible drivers and the proper Ethernet cable. Make sure your system runs a fast processor—not a slow one. Most built-in NICs on motherboards only handle 1Gbps, while higher-end boards can reach 2.5Gbps, but since you didn’t share your requirements, I’ll just wish you luck.
What changes were made? The current setup differs from the previous one—your router and Ethernet cable are no longer the same.
Information. System specs? It supports a 2.5GbE NIC. Where does it link to, and are there any switches in between? Are those switches also 2.5GbE capable? Does the router or firewall port match that speed? What does Windows report about your connection?
Network links operate based on the weakest connection among connected devices. Ensure all your equipment runs at least 2.5 gigabit speed—this includes your internet service, modem, router (possibly built-in), and any switches. Your cabling must be Cat5e or higher. If your internet plan is under 2500 megabits per second, it won’t overload your 2.5 gig NIC with data traffic. For transfers between PCs or local devices like a NAS, both must support 2.5 gigabit. If routed through a switch, that switch must also be 2.5 gig. Avoid mixing Gigabit and regular speeds. Remember, 2500 Mb/s equals roughly 312.5 MB/s in theory. If you’re seeing only about 100 MB/s, you likely have a standard Gigabit link. Once you confirm full 2.5 gig readiness and sufficient bandwidth, the main bottleneck is probably the remote server connection. In that scenario, little can be done to change it. WHAT IS A NIC? I HAVE A PRETTY GOOD PC, COST AROUND $1400 USD 6700XT & I5-12400F, SO I DONT THINK ITS THE PC. I UPGRADED FROM AT&T 2GB TO THIS LOCAL ISP 2.5 GBP. WHEN I HAD AT&T I WAS GETTING 2GB SO I DONT THINK ITS THE CABLE. I ALSO BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE AND IT'S STILL CAPPED AT 1GB. I REDOWNLAODED ETHERNET DRIVERS TODAY AND STILL DIDN'T WORK. MY MB IS CAPABLE OF 2.5 GB!!!!! I SEE THERE IS A NEW DRIVER FOR MY MB, I DONT THINK THATS THE ISSUE CAUSE IT WAS WORKING PERFECTLY FINE WHEN I HAD 2GB, BUT SHOULD I JUST UPDATE THE DRIVERS ANYWAY??? I own a pretty good PC priced around $1400 USD, 6700XT & i5-12400F. I don’t think it’s the best machine. I upgraded from AT&T’s 2GB plan to this local ISP’s 2.5 GBP service. Back then, AT&T gave me 2GB, so I didn’t think cable was the issue. I also bought another unit, but it still only supports 1GB. Today I downgraded my Ethernet drivers and it still didn’t work. My motherboard can handle up to 2.5GB! I think there’s a new driver for my board, but I’m not sure if updating it would fix things. It was working perfectly with 2GB before, so maybe I should just update the drivers instead? Here are the links to the PC and the new Ethernet cable.
