Need protection since I don’t have one. Can’t install Malwarebytes and it keeps failing with errors. Should I use AVG, Avast, or both on this Windows 10 system?

I could mention Windows Defender or Microsoft Security Essentials too, though they aren't the top choice—they're lightweight. Your brain is the most effective antivirus. If forced to pick one, I’d suggest Avast, but I still favor Windows Defender. Avoid running two antivirus programs on the same machine; it might lead to issues later.

I removed both programs because something bothered me deeply—I don’t recall exactly what. A forum post mentioned AVG’s privacy policy allowing them to sell your browsing history to third parties. Here’s the link: Think about getting a copy of BullGuard now...

I don't have access to your system, but you might try reinstalling it or checking your Windows version compatibility.

Windows 10 includes Windows Defender, similar to Microsoft Security Essentials. If you have Windows 7 or earlier, you'll need to install it.
