Hi,
To start with, a quick run down of my system is as follows:
i5 4690k
Be quiet! Dark rock 3 cooler
MSI Z97 Gaming 3
Kingston hyperx savage 1866mhz cl9 (2x4gb)
Asus R9 390 DC2
So I've managed to overclock my system with the above components so that my CPU is running at 4.4ghz base clock and 5.5ghz turbo boost with 1.230 core voltage. Idle CPU package temps are about 25 degrees, and under load about 65 (checked using CPUID HWMonitor). Stress tested using AIDA64, and been running stable for a while now... Also I've overclocked my RAM to 2400mhz because why not.
Anyway, my question is.... Should I turn turbo boost off if I have overclocked my CPU?
I was looking around on overclocking threads and loads of people suggest turning turbo boost off. I have my system set to be running turbo boost all the time so I'm running at 5.5ghz all the time, and my system does not get any BSOD errors, but still I'm wondering why people say to turn turbo boost off when overclocking....
Thanks in Advance
I don't have the chip, but on air you won't be getting 5.5ghz... from what I read it isn't possible. Have you confirmed you're boosting to that? It looks like the max on air with the voltage you mentioned is around 4.5. I believe I'm turbo boosting up to 5.5ghz... according to the task manager. I've shared a link to a print screen... the reply box was acting weird when uploading pictures.
No...task manager isn't accurate. My version shows 4.3, which isn't right. You're at 4.4, which is fine!
The task manager doesn't match the accurate readings, it shows 4.3 while CPUID says 4.4. At 4.4, the turbo speed would be around 4.4ghz. If turbo boost is disabled, CPUID still reflects 4.4ghz, but the task manager remains at 4.4ghz.
Awesome... thanks. I was expecting around 5.5ghz but wondered why Task Manager showed me higher. Thought it was a turbo boost. Is my turbo boost actually 4.4ghz?
I'm not sure, I don't own a K series. But I think if you enable manual OC then turbo won't push it higher even when left on. Turn it off and stick to the overclock you have!
