Hello everyone, I own an Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E gaming board paired with an i5-8500. I was browsing today and spotted an i3-3950KF, which seemed like an unusual 4-core chip. I’m not interested in the price or the number of threads it offers. My focus is on leveraging my motherboard’s overclocking potential, especially since the i5-8500 isn’t really suited for that. I won’t be streaming or doing heavy editing, just playing games and maybe recording occasionally. My goal is pure gaming, not limiting my 1070iqh. Should I upgrade to an i5-9600KF? And could we all agree it’s possible to push this CPU up to 5Ghz?
Lack of 9350KF due to insufficient cores and threads. Even at 5GHz it’s only useful for running older games that don’t require more than 4 cores. Once you hit that, a newer option isn’t necessary. 9600KF is only worth considering if you’re looking for a budget model. Also, consider adding high-frequency memory to avoid wasting board space.
Yeah, my main goal isn't the 3950KF, mainly interested in 9600KF because the i7 is kinda out of my reach. And i have a kit of Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4 3000 C15 2x8GB ram installed in the Mobo
The 9600KF offers only slight enhancements compared to the 8500. Consider an i7 or i9 for a noticeable boost.
You might wait a bit, continue saving the extra 200 dollars, and aim to get an i7 10700K next March. The 9900K will be a bit more affordable, and the i5 8500 probably won’t keep up unless you’re using a very unusual 1080p240Hz setup.
Yeah, was hoping someone would tell me this. I really am just trying to balance out the System in total with a 9600KF, but i don't know much about these new 10 gen cpus from intel yet. May as well wait till after CES thats comming up incase new info appears, but i am mostly worried about needing to upgrade the mobo.
Keep in mind that PCPP usually shows the 9600KF as pricier than the 9600K, so verify you're purchasing the more affordable model. It makes sense to delay buying it since the 9600K is rapidly becoming outdated, similar to how the 7600K once faded from relevance. Notice how CPUs with at least 6 cores/12 threads outperform those with 4 cores/4 threads or 6 cores/6 threads in low-frequency performance. If you focus on averages, the 9600K might seem sufficient, but it’s already operating at full capacity, offering little extra value and struggling compared to the 8700K. Tomorrow’s games will demand even more power, and the 7600K is likely to cause lag and poor performance.
