I have some questions and just wanted to get a better understanding before trying anything. I own a X570 motherboard with a 3900XT CPU and also have an MB550 with a 5600X installed. I remember that when the Ryzen 5000 series was released, you needed a specific BIOS update to make those chips work, and they weren’t backward compatible with the 3000 series. Do these requirements still apply now so I can swap the CPUs into the other boards? Regards, Matt
Are you considering fitting your 3900XT onto a B550 board and your 5600X onto an X570 board? Just make sure to update the BIOS on the X570 to the newest non-Beta version, as Beta versions can cause issues or instability. Once that's done, swapping should work fine.

The BIOS updates for the 500 series boards were routine, merely extending compatibility with a newer CPU line. It seems you're mixing up details from the 400 series, where a one-time beta update was needed for Zen 3 support. In reality, even that update didn't eliminate support for Zen 2, which mainly affected older Athlon models. Boards like B550 and X570 can handle both Zen 2 and Zen 3 with the most recent BIOS versions.
