I was asked to refresh the flash, but without any prompt or checkbox, the installer automatically added McAfee security scanner. What a surprise from Adobe! Anyone else feel this way?

It seems you experienced an automatic update prompt, accepted it, and then installed software without any questions. This raises concerns about whether such practices are standard across Adobe or other companies. It’s worth questioning if these updates truly add value or if they’re just unnecessary bloat on your system.

You typically have a choice to skip the installation. Consider performing virus scans first to check for issues.

It's against the rules to skip getting permission for software like McAfee, so you probably overlooked it. Adobe is well-known but can be overshadowed by unnecessary programs they added.

I tend to pay close attention when installers appear, since I accidentally messed up my first laptop by simply clicking through until the end. It’s possible I overlooked something, but I’m not sure. The only notification I received was about Windows UAC. This update arrived yesterday.

Remove the current installation, apply the previous version of Flash, then check its information.

This might be a rogue version of flash. You likely didn't see it.

No problem, flash clearly indicates when another application is being added. It often conceals itself in subtle methods, which means you might just have to click accept.

Flash will always prompt you before installing McAfee. Have you downloaded the update from their site? If yes, look for the checkbox in the middle of the three squares on their page that asks if you want to install McAfee. If it came from your computer without a browser, you probably forgot to click it. Just remove McAfee and you should be good.
