Auto-adjust CPU speed to maximum performance at 100°C.
Using the ASUS ROG Strix B660-A with the latest drivers, I notice my CPU temps jump instantly to 100°C during benchmark runs. The voltage spikes to 1.4 and power draw reaches 250W. Logs from HWI over the past 12 minutes show this behavior while running Prime98 and Furmark. I’m unsure how to stop the overclock or set limits on power/voltage. The file log_start.csv is attached.
Prime95 puts a heavy load on your CPU, which is typical under stress. Checking your cooler’s fit and the quality of thermal paste can help identify problems. Your case’s airflow and cooling configuration also play a big role. Answering these points may reveal the root cause.
Your i7-7820X runs hot during Cinebench R23, staying around 90-100°C even with full load.
When you placed it, there was a backplace with four long bolts and screws on both sides. The cooler was then attached using four nuts that secure it in place. How far should those nuts be tightened? You don’t want to force too much on the CPU or risk removing the thermal paste, and the instructions aren’t clear.
You also require significant heat from the cooler to make it functional.
