Hey there, just wanted to share what happened with my PC. It froze unexpectedly while I was online, showing errors like crypto library issues and a critical process crashing. At first, I thought it was a driver problem, but after rolling back the drivers, it worked for a short time. Then I went to watch a movie and everything stopped again—my PC turned off completely. When I tried to boot up later, I realized I couldn’t get started. I checked each part and suspected the CPU was the culprit. Testing with my friend’s CPU resolved it, so I’m planning to return it to the store in Australia.

I’ve filed a claim with AMD RMA and also submitted a warranty/refund request through Mwave. I’m wondering if I can get a refund or replacement right away, or if I’ll have to wait for them to test the unit first and then send my CPU back? Also, I didn’t overclock it, so that might help.

Any advice or support would be really appreciated! Thanks.

You didn’t purchase directly from AMD; you’ll need to contact the retailer where you bought the CPU for the return process. They’ll give you instructions. It’s unclear what consumer protection laws exist in Australia, but they likely offer a replacement option.

I don't agree. After checking online, I discovered that turning off all cores except one allows the PC to start. It seems the CPU is the issue.

I faced a comparable problem with a third-gen i5 earlier, verifying it with memtest86 that crashes only if I disabled most cores.

The machine didn’t crash during short CPU-heavy tasks unless there were many browser tabs open or I was using a resource-heavy software like Memoey. After replacing the socket and motherboard, it has remained stable. However, the CPU would fail when the system used the original Xeon model. Your situation could be similar but not identical. Before assuming anything, consider removing all other PCI devices except the GPU—this includes M.2 or U.2 drives, mini-PCIe cards, and Wi-Fi cards. Test each RAM stick in every slot. Also, disable auto OC settings such as DOCP or CPU boost. I’ve noticed crashes in a Skylake system before, likely due to a cheap PCI-USB3 controller, even though many symptoms matched the faulty i5.
