Hardware compatibility depends on the software you plan to use. Aura sync refers to Gigabyte's program, so it works best with their motherboards. ASUS offers Armory Crate, MSI has Mystic Lights, and others have different solutions. All these options are questionable in quality. Note: Aura sync is actually Asus' legacy sync tool, and I missed Gigabyte's name earlier.

Armoury Crate stands out among the bunch, though it's not the best. You can improve it by removing unnecessary software from different vendors. Aura Sync remains available, but Armoury Crate has largely replaced it with additional features. Gigabyte offers RGB Fusion as an alternative. The quick glimpses of the interface didn’t really impress me.
I appreciate certain Aorus boards that include led control in the BIOS. They tend to have less bloat even though they might have some performance issues. Only specific compatible parts will work, but most components should function. Note that items like MSI graphics cards may not play well with Asus software.
