Audio issues, perhaps someone can assist you?
Hi, I appreciate everyone who will assist me with this issue. My concern started when the Nvidia Drive Update (either version 551.23 or 546.65) was released in early January—over a month ago now. It affected my Realtek Audio driver. The problem is that whenever I played games and tried to adjust the main volume from the desktop, it wouldn’t respond or caused delays. Lowering the volume didn’t help quickly. Watching videos on YouTube or other sites worked fine, but audio lagged.
I use my 8-year-old Edifier Subwoofer Speakers for both watching videos and gaming. I know they’re not the cause, even though they sometimes hum at full volume. I bought a budget Bluetooth speaker with a subwoofer to try a workaround, but it only worked occasionally. Sometimes the audio would stop mid-playback when I restarted my PC or turned it off.
I’ve checked the audio drivers multiple times. The Realtek driver was missing, and I tried reinstalling, but nothing changed after a restart. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Nvidia driver, yet the issue persisted. I looked for corrupt files in Windows, fixed them with sfc, but it didn’t help. I also checked sound problems, but nothing unusual was found.
Other fixes tried included disabling hardware acceleration in Chrome, updating BIOS, using CCleaner, uninstalling Nvidia Broadcast, and even removing the Corsair Virtuoso driver. Still, no resolution.
If you have any ideas or solutions, I’d really appreciate it. Maybe someone like Linus could help, but for now, I’m grateful for the support here.
Hey there! It looks like your system might be having some hardware trouble. If you have an extra drive available, try installing Windows on it to check if the issue continues. If not, use a USB to boot into Ubuntu and see if the same problems appear. If it doesn’t show up there either, it’s likely time to replace the graphics card or the motherboard. It might be worth running a memory test just to be safe.
Thanks, I didn’t run a memtest yet, but I’ll try it now. I’m also planning to test Ubuntu. The boot drive could be an issue since Plextor is no longer available—I still have a 256GB SSD, so I need to schedule a time for that. My old X470 Gigabyte motherboard is in storage too; maybe swapping it out would help if I replace the board. Appreciate your response—I’d really benefit from identifying the hardware problem first.
