I evaluated my recently assembled system and noticed the CPU and case fans operate without slowing down. They function normally at first, then increase speed with workload or temperature, but remain steady even when idle. Restarting the PC is the only method to reduce fan speed after intense use. I've explored all BIOS options and attempted MSI Afterburner, yet I can't adjust the fans or achieve any slowing. As a beginner in PC building, please give it some time and patience. CommanderAlex suggested checking your CPU cooler installation. Under load, the CPU could overheat and throttle, causing fans to run faster without cooling. It seems both of us think you have an air cooler; with a liquid cooler, the system might take time to stabilize before fans slow down.
OP mentions the stock cooler comes with the CPU and is an air heatsink. He also notes concerns about the CPU cooler possibly not being installed properly, which could lead to high CPU temperatures and increased fan speeds.
After confirming the CPU temperatures, I noticed the GPU wasn’t cooling while the CPU fans were still running. Opening the case revealed a PSU wire blocking two GPU fans. Clearing the obstruction restored normal fan behavior. I suspect the GPU not cooling was the cause of the unusual fan activity, not the case or CPU fans.
Everyone creates them, and we all benefit from what we learn.
It seems the motherboard was leveraging the PCIe port for fan speeds as a backup for system fans. Good luck with the relatively straightforward solution!
Additionally, it emits a strong odor of poor ventilation in the case...
