Hey there, I’m dealing with a strange DTX board for my Minecraft server. Both the CPU fan and chassis fan are stuck at maximum speed all the time. The BIOS doesn’t have any fan control options besides setting a temperature target, and neither Fan Control nor Speedfan is helping. The only change I’ve made so far is updating the BIOS, but the board still behaves oddly. I can’t locate the manufacturer—it’s listed on Newegg, but I’m not sure how to identify it. My original setup had an 80mm exhaust fan, but it was too noisy, so I switched to a single 120mm intake. The system runs an i5-2400 and just needs some airflow. Any tips would be super helpful!
I think it relates to the fan headers and the fans you're using. 3 pin headers only handle DC control, adjusting speed by changing the voltage level. 4 pin headers support both DC and PWM control. PWM maintains full voltage but uses the fourth pin to adjust the 12V signal, effectively dimming the speed in steps and lowering power consumption. This approach reduces the fan's RPM gradually. I'd verify this information first to rule out a hardware setup problem before exploring deeper into UEFI/BIOS settings.
Choose a 800-1000 RPM 120mm fan with minimal noise. For the CPU, the built-in Intel cooler and fan should suffice. Follow what @Agall recommended first.
Suggest removing the system completely. It's outdated. For a fix, consider a fanhub from a similar service or install a simple resistor or trimpot directly on the power line.
I understand it's an older model, it was also quite inexpensive and didn't do much, so I was attempting to give it a new use. It doesn't seem to be faulty, just noisy; I replaced the fan with a 120mm one, which makes it much more comfortable now. The only current obstacle is Spectrum. For some strange reason, the computer doesn't appear in the spectrum app when connected via onboard networking, so enabling port forwarding isn't possible unless I add a Wi-Fi card. That's a topic for another discussion.
