Attempting to upgrade the A Z400 workstation.
I've already installed a GPU (GTX 1050) and now have 8GB DDR3 RAM. The specs are: Z400 workstation Intel Xeon W3550 @ 3.07GHz, 4 cores, 8 threads, 8GB DDR3 RAM at 1333MHz, a 500GB HDD with a GTX 1050 (2GB), and MSI Gaming X. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit on 80 Plus Bronze 475W. I'm wondering if the RAM can be upgraded, and if storage and CPU are still compatible since the motherboard won't change. I'm okay with keeping the GPU for now and looking forward to it in the future. It's needed for both editing and gaming. Please help quickly.
This setup should include two additional memory slots, yes? Storage capacity should work as long as the system is recent enough to handle SATA. For CPUs, it's less likely—six-core processors follow after quad-core models, and prebuilt units often lack support for newer parts.
The Z400 can reach up to w3690 or x5690, but only the w part is overclockable. For RAM, you can achieve up to 32GB. I also have an Nvidia 1060 running a triple screen at 5040x1050 resolution with a 48:10 aspect ratio. The forum mentions the Z400 is a solid machine and supports all the latest games.
