A friend of mine had a beloved old Flash-based screen saver for years but lost it in a computer crash years ago.
I managed to rescue a Flash Player EXE copy off his harddrive, but that's it. No FLA or SWF file. Just the exe. It plays just fine on my Win11 computer, but I can't extract the SWF within it to convert it to another format (I've tried every old utility. They too no longer work.)
Any ideas on how to either extract the animation from from a Flash Player exe in the Windows11-era (or perhaps how to simply get Windows to play the exe as a screensaver?)
TIA

That might end up being my only option.
I found some "ideas" that came
close
to working, but don't.
I found a utility called "RunSaver" that includes a "RunSaver.scr" that runs any exe. Easy to configure, but once you put "RunSaver.scr" in the System32 folder, it no longer works (a Security issue I presume.)
Another great idea was to use the Task Scheduler to run the exe "on idle". And despite setting it to run on idle for just 1 minute, it never does. I tried setting all kinds of Task options but never could get it to launch anything on idle.
So, I'll try doing a video capture of the animation. Can anyone recommend a "MP4 screen saver" app that works with Win10/11?
TIA

Multiple efforts to recover my old screensaver on Win11 have been unsuccessful. I recorded its playback, yet no compatible "Video Screensaver" app was found for this system. Extracting the SWF from the EXE proved impossible due to discontinued Flash support, and every tool requiring a functional Flash installation has been blocked by Adobe’s removal. Attempts to schedule the executable for idle runs failed, as the "On idle" option no longer functions since Windows 7. It’s been a really frustrating experience.

It is probably achievable if you figure out the initial extension and then change it to the required format for the intended screen saver.

The video captured or edited is available only as an MPG file format. The initial screensaver is now solely accessible through a "Flash Player" executable, and there are no more methods to retrieve the SWF or FLA version.

Can you provide a screenshot? There are available options: the first link and another specific page.

Thank you for your response. I'm uncertain about the specific screenshot you're referring to.

Apologies: I didn't intend to suggest that I required the screenshot directly.
According to what was shared, your friend took a screenshot from a video.
The goal is to locate where that screenshot file is stored and then move it for conversion.

the closest legitimate looking option is the provided link, though it only supports slideshow. It's unclear if the latest irfanview version includes video functionality.
