Attempting to set up Windows 8.1 on a USB drive encountered issues.
Hello, I own a Windows 8/8.1 laptop. This weekend I’m setting up my PC and intend to install Windows 8.1 via USB. I’ve placed the Windows 8.1 installation media on my USB drive. When I tried to enter the product key, a warning appeared: "This product key cannot be used to install a retail version of Windows 8.1." I’m having trouble figuring out what to do. Help needed!
Have you used the product key before? If not, enter the key here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery Download the ISO and stick it on the drive and install, you shouldn't have any more trouble
When I clicked the link, it indicated it was for Windows 7 recovery. Should I still enter my Windows 8.1 code? And I haven’t used the code at all (purchased it on G2Play.net).
Despite warnings about Windows 7 recovery, Microsoft intends to provide the proper operating system. However, some users have encountered invalid keys from G2P sources. It's best to purchase it from a store or Reddit's key swap community.
