I currently possess a GTX 1080 and an i7 6800K with a 1440p, 144hz display. Recently I purchased the RTX 2080 Ti from Zotac (managed to secure it at its MSRP while it was still available for pre-order on Amazon before stock ran out for a few hours). I’m curious whether my i7 6800K will limit the performance of the RTX 2080 Ti. If I switch to another CPU, would I notice more than a 10 frame difference in games while streaming? If not, I think waiting a couple more generations makes sense. Thoughts? UPDATE: It appears the system won’t allow me to push my CPU beyond 3.8GHz on any single core—only overclocking via bus voltage, not multiplier. I tested voltages from 1.2V to 1.35V, and both monitoring tools and the CPU report it’s running at 3.6 on all cores and 3.8 on one, even with a multiplier of 39 set across all cores and 40 elsewhere. I also have an Asus Rage Edge 10 motherboard and a H115i Corsair Liquid cooler. This shouldn’t be possible.

It's an i9-9900k and i7-9700k.
The choice for streaming hinges on your needs, though the Ryzen 7 2700 remains a strong value pick.

Skylake-X's mesh design isn't as effective for gaming compared to Ring architecture on Coffee Lake; I prefer Ryzen over that option.

Just increasing the clock speed to its peak performance should work fine, so I’d maintain the current configuration for a few more generations.

the 9900k is the sole choice with a 144hz display, while many CPUs might limit performance on the 2080 ti in some cases, though it's only a minor issue for the 8700k and 9900k. For the 9980XE, it won't perform as smoothly as the 9900k, so it comes down to whether you prioritize pure gaming or multitasking.

A 9900XE will NOT be good for gaming or streaming, nor will it be a good investment for anything but extreme workloads. I see no reason to upgrade your 6800K really. Just OC it, you should have no problem getting to 4.5GHz, or at least close.
