Hey there! I'm trying to set up a Steam library on one of my Windows 10 servers using a network share. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble updating the game library from remote machines. Here are some logs I found:

- Log entry from Aug 8, 2021 at 02:59:45: Target download connections increased to 4 (rate dropped from 0.000 to 401.194).
- Created a 'SteamCache' interface for cache18-iad1.steamcontent.com.
- Failed to write a chunk of "Data\Textures_3.pak" (1,048,576 bytes) at offset 1457217451 due to resource limits.
- AppID 1086940 update was canceled because of disk write issues.
- Updated status shows the app needs an update and is paused or finished.
- Current download speed is very low (0.000 Mbps).
- Windows event viewer logs mention permission problems and a crash risk when updating large games.

It seems the system restricts local activation for certain Steam apps, and updates can get interrupted. I can try updating directly on the server, but it might not always work smoothly.

I had to implement iSCSI... My attempt was in 2012, yet I expected Steam to perform better. The key evidence here is the user XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (S-1-5-21-XXXXXXXXXXXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXX) from LocalHost using LRPC inside an application container, which failed with Unavailable SID. This permission issue can be adjusted via the Component Services admin tool.

Using ISCSI eliminates permission problems and improves performance.

You can change your Windows storage to ISCIS mode by using the Storage Spaces Configuration tool, adjusting settings, and restarting the system.

Ensure ISCSI initiator is configured on your NAS, then the ICSI initiator will be created on your PC. After that, use the ICSI address to link with your PC.

The most recent patch addressed several issues, though permission concerns remain. Hopefully these are resolved soon—Steam seems to be tuning in, lmao. It’s mostly functioning better now; still can’t launch some games due to the reason, but all titles appear to download successfully from a remote client, even if it takes a few tries. Previously, this was a bigger problem. A new Steam Client version is available and will auto-download. General fixes include unresponsive libraries after startup on systems with many installed games, incorrect URLs for news links, download errors like "appmanifest_570.acf / Disk write error," and Linux-specific fixes for checking execute permissions when selecting a Steam folder.

It's not an optimal method for playing games because networks work much slower than SATA, and even Steam isn't designed for sharing libraries between many players.
