Hello, I'm working on customizing my R5 3600 (MSI B450 Tomahawk Max) with manual PBO. I've managed to get it stable at 4.2ghz and 1.3v, but it becomes unstable during stress tests. At 4.1ghz it doesn't seem to help much. I'm using a 42x multiplier and voltage range of 1.275-1.3v. According to Hwmonitor and Ryzen Master, it runs smoothly at the set voltage with consistent performance. My current PBO settings are: Advanced PBO limits, manual PPT 120w, TDC 85A, EDC 135A, Scalar 1x Max CPU boost clock override set to auto. Thermal throttling is automatic, and I'm using SMT control with LN2 mode 2. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Could you clarify the purpose of the 42x multiplier? It seems unusual since the base frequency should already reach 4.2GHz without any adjustments, except for enabling PBO.
Since I'm using just the standard PBO setting, it keeps increasing to over 1.4v continuously.
Sell and claim a 5600 or 5700x3d (preferably from AliExpress or at least used since the new prices are all over the place). If it only hits 4.2 at 1.3x, you probably have an older version that doesn’t perform well—upgrading will definitely bring better results.
This upgrade seems distant right now. I'm aiming to make the most of my R5 3600 until I can get my hands on AM5.
What concerns do you have? I'm not sure if 1.4v is problematic. Have you looked into whether 1.4v during idle on a 3600 is an issue? I've checked Google and some users say the idle voltage at 1.4v is fine on a 3600, but I'm not sure if it causes problems when under load.
The problems: Initially, I believed my "stable" version at 4.2 with 1.3v was fine for a while. But after using AIDA64 and Cinebench R23 again, I encountered issues. Cinebench triggered a BSOD while AIDA reported a hardware failure. From what I learned, version 1.4v running steadily can harm the CPU. This happened without any manual adjustments, just leaving PBO enabled.
It's running at 1.4v with all settings on auto. Regarding BIOS, I'm not sure if it's been updated to support 3600 yet—though it's unlikely Tomahawk would stop support for newer versions.
It was running nonstop around the clock with about 1.43 volts before I adjusted it to around 1.3v. Updated the latest BIOS about five minutes ago, hoping it would resolve the issue. Not sure which settings to try. I didn’t change the PBO settings this time. Just used 42x and 1.275v. Cinebench still crashes.
The Cinebench might be failing because the CPU requires 1.4V, yet you're attempting to operate it at a lower voltage. If it crashes under lower voltage, that could explain why it's running at 1.4V stock settings.
