Generally, random approaches work well since many automated systems rely on predictable word lists or simple combinations to attempt passwords.
I prefer two words, sometimes with underscores or numbers at the end. I rarely start passwords with a special character, just when security matters.

Yeah bad idea there are bots that throw dictionarys at passwords, so any obscure word in a dictionary will be used.
