Attempting to link all my routers together
I’m happy to clarify this for you. You’ve set up your new setup with a router in the garage connected to the FTTW line, and another router in the kitchen that’s already online. You’re using one router in the garage for the internet connection and another directly linked to it. Your goal is to have the garage router function as a modem while also sharing network ports with the kitchen router. Let me know if you’d like a diagram or more info on how to configure this.
You're after a quick fix based on how things sound or behave. Check if the routers are linked to the incorrect connections. Swapping the garage modem won't let you connect the server directly since it needs NAT and firewall handling. Consider swapping the kitchen router with a switch instead. It might be that the kitchen device is handling NAT or DHCP on another network segment, blocking server access. Verify if the WAN port connects to LAN ports without NAT or DHCP enabled. The bridge mode on your router likely manages multiple roles—people often use "bridge" loosely for various tasks.
Hi, thank you for your message. I've attached a network map to clarify the setup. The printer will be the sole device linked to the VR600's Wi-Fi, effectively turned off except for the printer itself. All other Wi-Fi devices will connect to the VR2800. I aim for the VR600 to function as a modem while sharing servers over the network, since direct access to the internet is only possible through the VR600. Essentially, I want everything to operate as a single network, similar to having just one router but using the VR2800 as the main access point. Regarding the VR2800, the cable currently connects to the WAN port—consider switching it to a LAN port if needed. Also, I’m unsure how to disable NAT since there isn’t a dedicated button for that; the NAT settings are listed under multiple options.
Switch off DHCP on the VR2800, assign a fixed IP on the LAN side that matches your other router’s subnet (ensure it isn’t already in use). Connect the cable from your other router into a LAN port instead of a WAN. It should function properly. Remember, for accessing the VR2800’s web portal you’ll need the IP assigned on the LAN now.
it took some time to get a reply, I didn’t have much time to adjust the router settings because most people were home. I followed your advice by turning off DCHP and moving the IP address to a higher subnet, plus switching the cable to the LAN port instead of the WAN port. everything seems to be working now, but my VR2800 devices appear in the wired section of the VR600 when connected to the VR600. they only show up on the VR2800 after logging into it from the device, and I’m not sure how to set a static IP in the same subnet. Also, the VR2800 says there’s no internet, yet it still functions.
the tool I use to connect to the VR2800 appears on both routers. I’m okay with multiple devices showing up, but I need them to display the VR2800 specifically and confirm a stable internet link for it. Having that connection is important, even if it’s not essential right now.
Using the VR2800 as the DHCP server ensures all devices appear on it. If possible, I’d like this setup. If not, it’s fine. All other devices besides the two server computers are linked to the VR2800, while the VR600 handles the servers.
