Hi everyone, I have a Chromecast with VLC installed and can see it connecting to network devices and virtual media servers. I have a big movie collection on my laptop and want to stream those movies onto a bigger screen. I’m trying to figure out how to set this up or use built-in Windows software for this purpose. Any advice would be helpful! Thanks.

Share the directory on the network where the media resides, enabling discovery by connected devices. Once accessible, any media player can play the files as though they were saved locally.

Yes, it functions even when the folder is on an external hard drive. Are you asking about UPnP specifically?

The drive works in any way as long as the folder is shared. The shared folder option in Windows should appear on the network.
