It makes sense since coil whine often comes from voltage regulation when switching between 12V and lower voltages for RAM and GPU. Smoothing the 12V won’t help much unless your power supply is failing badly—then upgrading it is a better choice, as you’d just be dealing with a minor issue. The PSU might interpret this extra capacitance as a problem and cause a failure.

To resolve the issue, use a very thin liquid superglue. Find all the coils on the card and pour the glue into them (they will pull it up as you lightly apply). This will secure the coils and eliminate the whine. Note the clear warning: “Obvious Don’t Try This At Home – if you brick the card it’s on you.” It should be safe, though. Started with the easiest options. The PSU would likely get more strain during startup, but as long as the OCP stays online, it should hold. Glue or epoxy could be next. Note: The PSU in question is a Phanteks PH-P1200PS 80+ Platinum—good for now, though not ideal. Noise standards aren’t addressed by the 80+ rating, so it might still be worth trying.

The 6-pin PCIe power connector has a +12V/GND configuration on both sides. To reduce noise from the reference ground on the +12V rail, place the capacitor between +12V and ground. Connect the negative terminal of the cap to ground, while linking the positive side to the higher voltage.

For a professional result, opt for a heat conductive epoxy specifically formulated for this application. Regular adhesive might soften or turn conductive with temperature shifts, or act as an insulator and lead to overheating of the coil.

Cyanoacrylate softens around 150°C. When parts meet that temperature, you get toast rather than a card. Choking produces very little warmth. These materials act as inductors, not resistors.
