I received an ASUS Z87-A motherboard and assembled it into a case. I attempted to install Windows 10 using unetbootin on a Toshiba external drive, following the provided instructions. Each time I tried to boot from the drive, I encountered an endless cursor blink on a blank screen, forcing me to hard-boot the system. In the BIOS menu, I had only two choices: boot from the SSD or boot from the Toshiba drive. When I connected the Toshiba drive to my Mac and tried booting from it, three options appeared: 1) Boot from normal Mac drive, 2) Boot from Windows, 3) Boot from EFI boot. In the Windows option, I received the same issue—cursor blinking indefinitely on a blank screen. However, selecting EFI boot produced the Windows installation menu. Why don’t I see these three options on my ASUS machine? It seems likely it defaults to Windows and blocks access to the EFI boot path. I’m unsure what settings I should adjust in the BIOS to resolve this. Thank you for your assistance!

The method used to make the drive bootable appears to differ between UEFI and legacy modes. It might be possible to enable UEFI boot in the BIOS settings. You likely don’t have a Windows machine to generate the bootable ISO, but you do have a Mac. While I’m not very experienced with creating bootable images on macOS, I hope someone can assist further. If you have access to a Windows machine, I can help with that process as well; Microsoft offers tools for this, and Rufus is also straightforward to use.

Was ExFAT als Dateisystem gewählt? Besser wäre NTFS. Windows unterstützt ExFAT nicht gut.

Correct, I only have a few Macs. But I have a friend with a Windows computer who can lend it to me if I really need one.

I received the instruction from your friend to utilize the Windows media creation tool, and it functioned correctly. Appreciate it!
