I thought it would handle the 3200MHz/2666MHz without any problems and didn’t need to change anything about the lifespan.

Everything you asked for is covered in the motherboard manual. You’ll need to overclock to get the most out of it. If you’re swapping your 4790k, make sure you got it cheaply because I’m sure affordable modern options exist.

I referenced CPU in the context of RAM speed. Others mentioned that the IMC in the 6700k can reach up to 2133mhz. The performance of the IMC relies on how far you can push it, especially with good RAM. Avoid mixing incompatible kits. For most 6700k models, 2666 is a reliable maximum.

Overclocking the RAM? I wasn’t aware of that. Can an i7 6700k handle RAM at 2666MHz smoothly? That sounds great, no issues with 3200MHz either—I’ll see if I can get one.
