I'm referring to improving the hardware components, not specifically about Ryzen.

No, using OC RAM in this case doesn't necessarily shorten the lifespan.

The motherboard isn't causing any issues. RAM specifications are set by the maker for performance above your system, so you shouldn't notice any drop in speed.

the mobo lists various frequencies, so using a 2666 or 3200 ram should be fine. it’s safe and won’t affect the lifespan. just confirm your motherboard model is the asustek z170m plus.

You'll have a tough time if it runs at 2666mhz because of the mismatched RAM on an old DDR4 board. It's either that or not. If you get the right voltages, it should be fine without damaging anything. Otherwise, you might need to adjust manually—2400mhz could be a workaround.

What's the issue? I don't want to work at 2666.

It could, it could not. Who matters? We're discussing nearly ten years of mismatched components—if everything functions properly, it's a good day. Ram speed will either work or not at XMP. In the end, it's not the most important thing.

You shouldn't worry about something so small. As @toasty99 mentioned, it will either function or not at those rates.
